Day 26 Portland-The Yoga Project-Vilma Zaleskaite

Hotel Vitage Plaza

Hotel Vitage Plaza

The YoYo’s aren’t goin’ to lie…it wasn’t easy gettin’ up this morning as we spent our first night in our eye-poppin, jaw-droppin’ room at the Hotel Vintage Plaza… the yogi, dog and eco-friendly hotel voted BEST- hotel staff, luxury hotel, tourist hotel, romantic getaway, pet friendly, family friendly and weekend- get-away  by City Search!!! Call us crazy…but we think that qualifies as a “not to miss” place to stay while in the Holy Land of Yoga- Portland!   The Ru; wise, kind, old, grandfather, “can’t jump as high as he used to,” Cocker Spaniel was even “chill” about givin’ up his, “easy to get into,” Costco air mattress,  once he sank into the  “princess and the pea” down bed.  So how you ask, did a couple of YoYos score digs like this?  Seems Jeri Riggs and her team at Hotel Vintage Plaza love yoga (they even supply mats for their guests), take care of the environment, think the blog is cool and love The Ru.  Well,  actually they love all animals, but the RU still thinks the doggie gift bag that they leave every furry guest filled with toys, “buddy biscuits”, poop bags, and pooch mags was specifically just for him-shhhhh!

Now, The YoYos were pretty sure that there are as many paths in Yoga, as there are yogis…but after seein’ what we’ve seen during this epic adventure, we now believe that down to our yogi toes.  Today’s class at The Yoga Project, was entitled “Yoga for the Larger Woman”, a “for women only” class held in the super-inviting, upstairs studio located in the “fun to hang in”, Sellwood neighborhood.  YoYoYogiman and The Ru, man dog, “sadly” hung back in the lap of luxury to work on “Power OM”.

When YoYoYogini entered 15 minutes before class to find an already filled to capacity room, she new somethin’ pretty special was goin’ on here.  These fiercely dedicated, territorial devotees of this amazing program, sang the praises of Vilma Zaleskaite, the teensy-weensy, heavy-accented, funnier than hell, super-caring teacher who designed an amazing class that was both sensitive to those with limited mobility and quite challenging.  Born out of her “yoga for seniors” class with the average age hoverin’ upwards of 80, this remarkably in-tune instructor created a safe haven that gave these courageous women the confidence to…just start.  Standin’ taller, walkin’ eaiser”… this sharing, tight knit community provides the mental shift that allows these yogis to breathe and feel balance enter their lives….The YoYo’s are pretty sure that’s what yoga is all about.  Vilma and this group of dedicated “never miss class” yogis are a total inspiration!
